Professional Disposition of Learners

Throughout my internship experience, I worked to embody the professional dispositions outlined by Grand Canyon University’s CMHC program, particularly integrity, accountability, and a commitment to ethical practice. At Penndel Mental Health Center, I consistently upheld the ACA 2014 Code of Ethics by maintaining professional boundaries, protecting confidentiality, and engaging in discussions with supervisors about complex ethical situations such as mandated reporting and dual relationships. These opportunities reinforced the importance of acting with professionalism and responsibility in every client interaction.

I also demonstrated dispositions of acceptance, empathy, and flexibility by adapting treatment interventions to diverse client populations and adjusting my counseling style to meet the unique needs of each individual. Engaging with clients from varied cultural, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds deepened my understanding of how cultural humility is vital in building strong therapeutic alliances.

Patience and persistence were essential qualities during challenging sessions, particularly with clients experiencing trauma, addiction, or co-occurring disorders. By applying reflective listening and practicing self-regulation, I was able to remain calm and supportive, creating a safe space for clients to process their struggles at their own pace.

Finally, I demonstrated a commitment to lifelong learning and growth, as reflected in my use of evidence-based interventions, integration of outcome measures, and willingness to incorporate new research into treatment planning. These dispositions will continue to guide me as I pursue advanced training, supervision, and professional involvement in the counseling field, ensuring that I uphold the highest standards of care while remaining client-centered and ethically grounded.
